Database Description from Wayne State Library Website:

"Includes citations and articles - many full text - on a broad range of topics including arts, business, education, general interest, health, humanities, international, law, multicultural, psychology, sciences, social sciences, and women's interests from a mix of scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers."

1) Go to the WSU Libraries website:

http://www.lib.wayne.edu/index.php

2) Click on "Article Databases"

3) In the search box, type "ProQuest Research Library" and hit enter. (Be sure to choose the correct ProQuest database, there are two others that we are not using.)

4) You may need to enter your AccessID and password. You should now be at the Proquest Research Library "Basic Search" screen.  The "database" field will read "Interdisciplinary Research Library."  This is the database we'll be searching.

5) In the search box, type "Detroit"

6) This search will turn up about 23,000 results.  This is too large a result for our search, so we want to narrow it.  There are a couple of ways to do this:

a) Return to the Basic Search screen and include some other words in your search (Detroit and _______).

b) Choose from one of the "suggested topics" that ProQuest provides at the top of the "Results" screen (such as "Detroit Michigan (location) AND Cities").

7) Once you've narrowed your search, scan the list of sources and seek out a scholarly article that could serve as a chapter in an anthology.  Here are some questions you should ask yourself as you scan the results of your search:

a) Where was this article published? Is the publication a scholarly one?

b) Who is the author? What credentials does he or she have? Is the author credible?

c) How long is the article? Is it long enough to be a chapter in a book?
